A ritual of prayers called Novena is started 8 days prior to Christmas which ends on the day of Christmas with the feast of Epiphany.

Before a week of Christmas, poor children dressed as shepherd go from house to house reciting poems and Christmas songs and playing flutes. They are given generous returns for their holy act and are provided with money to buy presents and treats for Christmas.
Nativity scene are created this is one of the most beloved and enduring symbols of the Christmas season. Creating the Nativity scene during Christmas actually originated in Italy and is now a popular custom throughout the world. History says that, St. Francis of Assisi once asked a villager of Greccio named Giovanni Vellita, to create a manger scene. Giovanni made a very beautiful Nativity scene and St. Francis performed a mass before it thereafter, it has become a very popular genre of folk art.
